Sumalee Boxing Gym is a Muay Thai and yoga retreat in Thalang, on the quieter east coast of Phuket near Cape Yamu. Founded in 2011 by Dr Lynne Miller, it sits on three acres of tropical land, away from the crowds, and is known for a more individual training experience at every level, from first-timers to fighters.

The outdoor gym has two full-size rings, bags and pads, a dedicated strength and conditioning area and an ice bath recovery room. Training is led by Kengkla Sor Kamsing, winner of Channel 7’s Best Technique award. There is also a Balinese-style yoga shala, a massage sala, an equipment shop, and The Nutrition Station, an on-site restaurant with menus designed by an in-house sports nutritionist.

Guests stay on site in 16 rooms set back from the training area, with a swimming pool and sun terrace. Every room rate includes two group Muay Thai sessions a day, Monday to Saturday. Surin, Bang Tao and Nai Yang beaches are all within reach.
